How to cut back on the cheese
Cutting out milk products can seem like a tall task – especially when it comes to many of ours’ beloved cheese! Here are a few ways you can make cheese changes in your kitchen when trying to eliminate or reduce dairy use:
- Try your hand at making raw cashew cheese at home using raw soaked cashews, seasonings, herbs, and nutritional yeast.
- Use herbaceous fresh pesto or creamy hummus as the base for flatbreads or pizzas. You’ll add tons of flavor and nutrition all without any need for cheese.
- Experiment with different dairy-free milks to find your family’s favorites. Many people quickly find almond milk, oat milk or coconut milk are easy swaps for cow’s milk when making vegan “cheese” sauced recipes.
- Use dairy-free cheeses like Daiya or Kite Hill brands in recipes. Just be sure to read the labels and use in moderation as many are high in oil and salt content.
